Two students of Lagos State Model Junior College, Igbonla, Epe, and their teacher narrowly escaped death following a road accident along the Onipanu area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred at about 6:00 p.m., involved a collision between two vehicles, a Honda Accord and a Suzuki Alto conveying the students and their teacher.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, both vehicles were reportedly speeding at the time of the crash.
He explained that the impact forced one of the vehicles into the opposite lane, causing significant damage to both cars.
“The Honda Accord had a single occupant, while the Suzuki Alto carried three occupants, a teacher and two students of Lagos State Model Junior College, Igbonla, Epe. LASEMA is pleased to report that no fatalities occurred, and all occupants escaped without serious injury,” he said.
The two students, identified as Animashaun Ridwan and Ogunbamowo Michael, both in JSS 2, reportedly suffered head and eye discomfort. They were attended to by emergency responders, stabilised, and given first aid before being handed over to their parents.
The teacher involved in the accident was identified as Mr Joseph, a Basic Technology teacher at the school.
Oke-Osanyintolu added that the victims were evacuated to safety, while the damaged Suzuki Alto was towed away to prevent further accidents. Both vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
He urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, warning that reckless driving and speeding pose serious risks to lives and property.
