Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has expressed disappointment over his strained relationship with actress Iyabo Ojo, revealing that she once entrusted him with the care of her children.
Speaking during a recent interview on a podcast hosted by actress Biola Adebayo, the actor said he was hurt by Ojo’s stance against him during his legal troubles, despite what he described as a previously cordial relationship.
According to him, “When they told me about Iyabo Ojo, I said she is my product. I cannot wish her bad. I do not want women to have problems. But what she turned into today, I do not understand.”
Baba Ijesha added that he would have preferred a direct confrontation if he had offended her, noting that her reaction came as a surprise.
Recounting a past encounter, he claimed that the actress once left her children, Festus and Priscilla, in his care at her shop in Ilupeju, Lagos, while she briefly stepped out.
“I met her at her shop, and she was very receptive. She left the children with me while she went to buy suya. I even had to ask my apprentice to watch over them while I went to check on her when she stayed longer than expected,” he said.
The actor also addressed allegations that Ojo took offence at a past comedy skit in which he mentioned her name alongside other public figures, including Bobrisky and Lizzy Anjorin. He described the content as purely comedic and not intended to harm.
He further spoke about his time in prison, dismissing claims that Bobrisky did not serve a jail term. According to him, the social media personality experienced emotional distress during incarceration but remained generous among inmates.
“There is a lot of unnecessary beefing in the industry,” he added, while refraining from directly linking his comments to Ojo’s advocacy during his legal case.
Iyabo Ojo was among prominent voices who called for justice for a minor involved in Baba Ijesha’s sexual assault case in 2021, alongside comedienne Damilola Adekoya.
In July 2022, a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja convicted Baba Ijesha of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child, sentencing him to five years and three years’ imprisonment respectively, to run concurrently.
Amid subsequent controversies regarding his release, the Lagos State Ministry of Justice clarified that the actor was not acquitted. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, stated that while the Court of Appeal set aside some convictions related to earlier allegations, it upheld the conviction and sentence tied to the 2021 case.
