CHUKWUEBUKA ENEKWECHI FINISHES 11TH IN MEN’S SHOT PUT AT WORLD INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Agency Report

Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi delivered a modest showing in the men’s shot put final at the World Indoor Championships in Poland on Sunday, finishing 11th with a best throw of 20.04m in a field of 17 athletes.
Competing as Nigeria’s sole representative at the event, Enekwechi fell short of the top contenders, though his presence continues to maintain Nigeria’s visibility on the global athletics stage. His performance contrasted with his previous outing at the championships in China, where he placed fifth in the final.
The biennial World Indoor Championships, featuring about 500 athletes from over 130 member federations across 27 events, also offers prize money: $40,000 for gold, $20,000 for silver, and $10,000 for bronze.
In the men’s shot put, Tom Walsh successfully defended his title, claiming gold with a season-best throw of 21.82m, marking his fourth gold and a record seventh overall medal in the event. Geist secured silver, while Roger Steen took bronze with a final-round throw of 21.49m.
Nigeria has historically won 12 medals at the World Indoor Championships—two gold, seven silver, and three bronze—but Enekwechi’s result means the country’s medal tally remains unchanged.
