The Nigeria Police Force in Anambra State has arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Chukwudalu Ezeani, for allegedly killing his cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, and burying his body in a shallow grave in Afube village, Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
According to the command, the suspect allegedly committed the crime on August 1, 2025, at about 8 pm at his residence, where he killed the 52-year-old victim and concealed the body within his compound for about eight months.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka uncovered the crime following renewed investigation into a previously reported missing person case.
Ikenga said the case was initially reported at the Amichi Police Station but was later revisited based on credible intelligence, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
He added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and subsequently led detectives to the burial site within his compound, where the decomposing remains were exhumed.
The police said the recovered remains have been deposited for forensic examination, while the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
