The Sokoto State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to combating insecurity, pledging full support for the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Shaffa, as part of intensified efforts against banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes.
In a statement on Monday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman, said the appointment of the new police chief represents a strategic move to consolidate security gains and strengthen ongoing operations across the state.
“The deployment of CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa is timely and aligns with the state government’s determination to reinforce the security architecture and sustain the fight against criminal elements,” Usman said.
He emphasized that the government is fully committed to collaborating with the new police commissioner to improve operational efficiency and safeguard lives and property.
“We assure the Commissioner of Police of the state government’s full support and cooperation. We are confident that his experience and leadership will boost the morale of security personnel and enhance results in our joint fight against insecurity,” Usman added.
The government urged CP Shaffa to build on existing achievements by prioritising intelligence-led operations and reinforcing collaboration with local communities.
“We expect the new CP to strengthen intelligence gathering, promote community policing, and maintain sustained pressure on criminal networks that threaten the peace of our communities,” the statement said.
While noting the progress made in recent months, the government emphasized that the fight against insecurity is far from complete.
“Although measurable progress has been made, more work is needed to fully stabilise affected areas. The government will continue to provide the necessary logistics and an enabling environment for security agencies to succeed,” Usman said.
The state also paid tribute to the outgoing Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, recently promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police, describing his tenure as impactful.
“CP Ahmed Musa showed professionalism and dedication in service. His leadership strengthened coordination among security agencies and contributed significantly to the gains achieved so far,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on criminality, the government called on residents to support security agencies with credible intelligence.
“Security is a collective responsibility. We urge citizens to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security operatives. Together, we can restore lasting peace across Sokoto State,” the statement concluded.
The government expressed confidence that CP Shaffa will play a key role in advancing the state’s security goals and maintaining momentum in the fight against insecurity.
