PDP PROGRESS DEPENDS ON SUPREME COURT RULING – LAWYER MADUABUCHI

Senior Advocate of Nigeria Oba Maduabuchi has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot move forward without a Supreme Court ruling.
Maduabuchi made the remarks on Monday during an interview with Arise Television, noting that the Court of Appeal had upheld the expulsion of members of the Pro-Wike faction.
The senior lawyer observed that despite the Court of Appeal upholding the expulsion of the Pro-Wike faction, the same individuals were later elected as members of the National Working Committee (NWC) during the PDP’s recent national convention.
He described the ruling of Justice James Omotoso of the Federal High Court as contradictory, saying, “You can’t say the Pro-Wike faction was rightly expelled from the party and then affirm the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led administration as authentic.
“To understand how deep the crisis has become, we need to go back to the beginning. Iyorchia Ayu was the national chairman of the PDP, and his leadership was widely accepted.
“He was removed, and Umar Damagum took over. Despite facing challenges, Damagum remained in office until December 2025, when his tenure ended.
“That’s when problems escalated. Mohammed Abdulrahman suddenly became chairman or acting chairman of the caretaker committee—I personally did not know how he assumed the position.
“Damagum’s NWC informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of plans to hold a convention, which INEC approved, giving them 21 days. The convention was held, during which certain members were dismissed or expelled.
“Without a Supreme Court judgment, the PDP cannot progress,” he concluded.
