A former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, marked his 70th birthday on April 6, 2026, with a thanksgiving service held at Abraham’s Tabernacle in Sagamu, Ogun State, rounding off a series of events organised in his honour.

During the service, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, preached from Psalm 90:12, urging worshippers to reflect on the brevity of life and the certainty of accountability before God. He stressed the importance of living a godly life, embracing holiness, and accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour in order to finish well.

Adeboye also described Daniel as an “exceptional politician and original Omoluwabi,” noting that his long residence in Ogun State since 1983 had given him sufficient grounds to speak on his character and longstanding relationship with the church.

He further remarked that Daniel’s qualities were rare, adding that he altered his schedule to attend the event out of respect for him and extended birthday wishes on behalf of the church.

In his goodwill message, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun praised Daniel for his contributions to governance and development in the state, saying his administration laid enduring foundations that continue to support progress across Ogun State.

He also commended Daniel’s continued service as Senator representing Ogun East, noting his ongoing contributions to legislation and constituency development, while praying for his continued strength and commitment to public service.

The event featured musical performances led by gospel saxophonist BeeJay Sax and his band.

Dignitaries in attendance included former President Olusegun Obasanjo (represented by his wife Bola), Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, traditional rulers including the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, and the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, among others.

Ahead of the thanksgiving service, Daniel also hosted a book launch on April 1, 2026, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where four publications were unveiled, attracting top political, religious, and traditional leaders from across the country.
