LAGOS POLICE CONFIRM ONE DEAD AT YORUBA NATION RALLY
By Adeniyi Onaara
The Lagos State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed that one person died in the early hours of Monday in the Ojota area of the state.
According to Hotjist, Yoruba Nation agitators gathered in Ojota earlier today for a rally, during which an unrest occurred.
“In the early hours of today, miscreants posing as Yoruba Nation agitators descended in their hundreds on the Ojota area of the State, disrupting social and commercial activities.”
A team of police officers from Alausa Division and the Raid Respond Squad quickly intervened to disperse the illegal gathering and prevent a breakdown in law and order. The miscreants opened fire on the officers and destroyed two vehicles in the process.
“One person has been confirmed dead, and two police officers who were shot by the miscreants are currently being treated. Four suspects have been apprehended, and investigations have begun. Meanwhile, the area has returned to normalcy. Lagosians are urged to go about their lawful business as measures to prevent further breakdown of law and order have been put in place, and the situation is being closely monitored.
“It is imperative to state unequivocally that the Lagos State Police Command will not allow any person or group of persons, under whatever guise, to disrupt the current state of peace,” the PPRO said in a Twitter statement.
“Several pump-action-rifle-wielding miscreants shot at the RRS officers and patrol vehicles,” he added.
