REPS RAISES ALARM OVER INSECURITY IN NIGERIAN SCHOOLS
Since 2014, the alarming number of kidnappings and the wanton destruction of lives and property at schools across the nation has been denounced by the House of Representatives.
The Hon. Billy Osawaru made a motion of critical national importance during the Abuja plenary.
The House then ordered the Committees on Army, Air Force, Navy, Police Affairs, and Defense to confer with the security chiefs to determine the most effective means of securing schools and to present long-term, immediate answers to the nation’s security problems.

In order to supplement the efforts of the security forces in securing the schools, the House also mandated that schools hire private security companies.
The MPs also demanded a social and value reorientation, particularly for the fear-stricken school-age youngsters.
There have been major incidences of kidnapping affecting several schools in the country in recent years, especially in places like Borno, Nasarawa, Niger, Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna States.
Also, during its plenary on Wednesday, the House of Representatives resolved to investigate the alleged death of a four year-old-boy, Miguel Ovoke, at Brickhall School, Abuja.
Raised as a motion of urgent national importance by Honourable Kelechi Nwogu, the House is concerned about the allegation of a cover up by the school.
The House observed a moment of silence for the late Miguel and resolved to constitute a special committee to carry out the investigation.
