POLICE CONFIRM 15 WORSHIPPERS DEAD IN KANO MOSQUE ATTACK
The mosque attack at Gadan village, within the Gezawa Local Government Area of the state, resulted in the deaths of fifteen people, as reported by the Kano State Police Command on Friday.
On Wednesday, a man is accused of setting fire to the mosque, trapping worshippers inside after spraying fuel all over it and locking its doors.
In a phone conversation, state Commissioner of Police Usaini Gumel informed the News Agency of Nigeria that fifteen of the incident’s twenty-four victims had passed away thus far.
According to early reports, just one worshipper had perished in the attack; however, as more victims passed away while seeking care at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, the number of deaths increased.
Gumel said that the incident occurred during a dawn prayer at a mosque in Gadan village, leaving 24 worshippers injured.
He said the injured victims were currently receiving treatment at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
NAN reports that the suspect, Shafi’u Abubakar, 38 is currently in police custody.
The motive behind the attack was believed to be a family conflict over the sharing of family inheritance.
The commissioner said that the police are continuing with their investigation into the attack.
