EU RAISES SCHENGEN VISA FEE TO €90
The application fees for adult African and other non-EU citizens seeking a Schengen visa have been increased by the European Union (EU) from €80 to €90.
The European Commission states that the increased visa costs will take effect on June 11, 2024. The commission posted a statement on its website that stated, “All visa applications submitted on or after this date will be subject to the new fee.”
Children under the age of twelve and less than six must pay an application fee of forty-five euros each.
One of the main destinations for young Nigerian migrants seeking better opportunities is Europe. For a brief visit of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, non-EU nationals require a Schengen visa in order to enter any country within the Schengen area.
Austria, Belgrade, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden are the 27 member nations of the European Union.
More than 10.3 million applications for short-stay visas were received by the consulates of EU member states and Schengen-associated nations in 2023, according to the latest data released by the EU. Although this is a 37% increase over 2022 (7.5 million), the quantity of applications in 2019 remains less than that of the year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic (17 million).
