LAGOS GOVT BEG PROTESTERS, SAYS IT’S TIME TO GO HOME
Gbenga Omotosho, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, has beseeched the #EndGovernance demonstrators to call off their demonstration.
On the second day of the protests, Omotosho gave a speech at Ojota Park, declaring that their demands had been heard by the government.
āFor our people protesting, we have heard their rights, we have heard their say, Sanwo-Olu the governor has said he has heard them. Now it is time to go home, now it is time to end their protest,ā he said.
In a related development, Governor Sanwo-Olu condemned a social media post calling for the removal of Igbo people from Lagos and the South-West.
The governorās media aide, Gboyega Akosile, stated:
āThe governor and indeed, the Lagos State Government wish to distance themselves from the reckless, divisive and dangerous rhetoric, saying Lagos remains home to every Nigerian citizen regardless of their ethnic nationality.ā
Sanwo-Olu views the post as an attempt to sow discord between the Yoruba and other tribes, and has called on security agencies to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
The governor appealed to Lagosians to ignore the post and promised to work towards ensuring lasting peace in the state.
āMr. Governor enjoins Lagosians to ignore the post and any post of that nature, promising to double his efforts towards ensuring lasting peace in the state.ā
