Suspected armed herders have reportedly killed a patent medicine seller identified as Ojoma Emie in Ikobi, Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.

The victim was allegedly attacked and beheaded while returning from a business trip, with the assailants reportedly making away with his severed head.

The incident occurred on Monday along the Ugbobi Junction axis, an area residents described as notorious for ambush attacks.

Speaking on the development, a local source identified simply as Sam said the deceased had travelled to Ugbokpo, the headquarters of the local government area, to restock his medicine business before the attack.

According to him, Emie was returning to his community in Ikobi on a motorcycle when he was ambushed by armed attackers.

“What we gathered was that the deceased had gone to Ugbokpo to buy medicine and stock his shop. Unfortunately, while returning to Ikobi, he was attacked at Ugbobi Junction, killed, and his head was severed and taken away,” the source said.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of Apa Local Government Area, Adams Ochega, said the victim was attacked and killed while travelling between Ikobi and Ugbokpo.

“He was on his way when the attackers ambushed and beheaded him,” Ochega stated.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said the command had yet to receive an official report on the incident.

Apa Local Government Area has remained one of the flashpoints of recurring violence in Benue State, with residents repeatedly raising concerns over attacks linked to suspected armed herders.

The latest incident comes months after at least four persons returning from a burial ceremony were reportedly killed in Ankpali village in Edikwu District of the same local government area.
