Striker Joy Omewa scored twice while Asisat Oshoala added a third goal as Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Senegal 3–0 in Ikenne on Monday to complete a dominant double-header sweep ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The victory followed Nigeria’s 2–1 win in the first meeting on Friday, giving the Super Falcons a convincing 5–1 aggregate result as preparations intensify for next month’s continental tournament.
Head coach Justine Madugu made five changes to his starting lineup, introducing goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, striker Gift Monday, Joy Omewa, Rinsola Babajide and Rofiat Imuran.
Nigeria started on the front foot and nearly opened the scoring in the opening minute after captain Rasheedat Ajibade won an early set-piece opportunity, but the chance was not converted.
The Falcons maintained control throughout the first half, creating several openings. Omewa came close in the 15th minute after rounding the goalkeeper, but her effort struck the woodwork, while other opportunities also went begging as the teams went into the break level.
The breakthrough eventually arrived three minutes into the second half when Shukurat Oladipo delivered a pinpoint cross that Omewa powered home with a header in the 48th minute.
Nigeria continued to dominate and doubled their lead in the 55th minute as Omewa showed strength and composure to break through Senegal’s defence and complete her brace.
The Super Falcons sealed the victory in the 66th minute when Ajibade embarked on a brilliant run before setting up substitute Asisat Oshoala, who calmly finished to make it 3–0.
The emphatic result offers a confidence boost for Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16.
The Super Falcons, chasing a record-extending 11th continental title, have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and tournament debutants Malawi, while Senegal will compete in Group A with hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya.
