The Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment has urged Stakeholders to engage in efficient service delivery as part of a collaborative effort to strategically create wealth and employment opportunities for Lagos State residents.

Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, disclosed this recently at the Year 2024 Stakeholders Forum tagged: “Enhancing Service Delivery to Empower Lagos” held at NECA House, Hakeem Balogun Street, CBD, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

He stated that the “Empower Lagos” initiative is a State Government intervention programme designed by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration to address the pressing challenge of unemployment, underemployment, and economic inequality in Lagos State.

He revealed that the programme is a comprehensive package targeted at 10,000 beneficiaries across all industries, with adequate measures put in place to ensure each beneficiary of entrepreneurial skills trains at least 10 individuals resulting in a multiplier effect of more than 100,000 Lagos State residents over 36 months, thereby, addressing skill gaps and ensuring economic growth.

Ajigbotafe added that feedback from the public is crucial to enhancing service delivery and is tailored to meet specific needs, adding that dialogue is essential for fostering trust and ensuring that no one is left behind in the quest for a progressive Lagos State.

He, however, called on more stakeholders to support capital-intensive programmes offered by the Ministry such as the Employability Skills training for post-NYSC graduates: the Graduate Internship Placement Programme (GIPP) for sustainability.

Ajigbotafe also charged stakeholders to embrace the use of innovations and technology to enhance qualitative service delivery to achieve the “Empower Lagos” initiative.

In his remark, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam. Egube, who was the Guest Speaker at the event, underscored the importance of partnership in driving sustainable development in Lagos State.

He emphasised the need for continuous improvement for Lagos residents regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds. He stated that while the State Government contributes 3% to the Gross Domestic Product of the State, the people add 97% to improve productivity.

He averred that by pooling resources and expertise, a business partnership with private sectors can transform challenges into opportunities for growth and development in Lagos.

Dignitaries present at the event include the Chairman, House Committee on Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Stella Foluke Osafile; Mr. Innocent Osaghe, Managing Director, Human Capital Partners; Eng. Lawrence Ajayi, President, Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans amongst others.
