ABIA REP NKWONTA DUMPS PDP, FOR APC

Read Time:45 Second

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost a member from Abia, Chris Nkwonta, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

On Wednesday, Nkwonta declared his defection in a letter that Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read aloud on the House floor.

The legislator is a representative of the state of Abia’s Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency.

However, using Order 68 of the 1999 Constitution as justification, Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki objected to the defection.

According to Madaki, an elected official may only leave the party that supported him if there is internal discord.

The Speaker declared there was a crisis in the PDP and declared his point of order to be out of order.

“The information available to me shows there is a faction,” the Speaker said to cheers from the APC bench.
