(JUST IN) SPORTS: LAMPARD APPOINTED AS COVENTRY MANAGER

In an attempt to restart his coaching career, Frank Lampard was named manager of Coventry City, a Championship team, on Thursday.
After an unsuccessful second stint as Chelsea’s temporary manager during the last few months of the 2022–2023 season, the 46-year-old has remained unemployed.
Mark Robins, who guided Coventry to the FA Cup semifinals the previous season, was controversially fired earlier this month. Coventry currently sits 17th in the English second division.
Lampard will take over as manager for the first time on Saturday when they play Cardiff City at home after agreeing to a two-and-a-half-year contract.
“I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as head coach,” said Coventry owner Doug King.
“Frank cut his teeth in the Championship and knows what is needed in this league to be successful.
“His experiences thereafter at Chelsea and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a club are striving to reach.”
Lampard, the all-time top scorer for Chelsea, has been unable to replicate his stellar playing career since taking over as manager.
In 2019, he was given the Chelsea job for the first time following an outstanding season at Derby County in the Championship.
He had to watch his successor, Thomas Tuchel, win the Champions League later that season after being fired after 18 months with the Blues in ninth place in the Premier League.
After leading Everton for a year in 2023, he was likewise fired.
A few months later, Lampard made his comeback to Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea finished in 12th place in the Premier League with just one victory in 11 games.
