Kanu, Ikpeba, Amuneke, Weah To Attend Aiteo CAF Awards
Former African Player of the Year winners Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Amuneke and Victor Ikpeba are among the list of top dignitaries expected to grace the Aiteo CAF Awards ceremony billed for the Accra International Conference Centre, Ghana on Thursday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Also expected at the occasion is the newly elected president of Liberia, Georg Weah, a former winner of the award.
Kanu, who plays for top European teams like Ajax Amsterdam, Inter Milan and Arsenal, won the award twice in 1996 and 1999.
Former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amuneke took the prize in 1994, while Victor Ikpeba was crowned best player in the continent in 1997.
The trio of Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Senegal’s Saido Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are in contention for the best player on the continent accolade for 2017.
In the women’s category, Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala is in the race with Cameroon’s Gabrielle Aboudi Ongene and South Africa’s Christina Kgatlana.
