FIRE DESTROYS GOODS WORTH MILLIONS OF NAIRA AT LADIPO MARKET
A fire broke out on Tuesday, destroying several shops in the Ladipo market and causing damage to goods valued at millions of Naira.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday.
He explained that the agency received emergency calls reporting the fire outbreak at approximately 00:09 hours through its toll-free lines, 767 and 112.
”LASEMA immediately activated the state’s emergency response plans and response team from its Cappa Base.
”Upon arrival at 00.16hrs at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that a warehouse surrounded by shops was gutted by the fire.
”Investigations revealed that the inferno was caused by an electric power surge after public electricity power supply was restored to the area,” he said.
”Valuable goods worth a fortune were however, destroyed by the inferno,” he said.
According to him, the items that were damaged included phones, home appliances, bicycles, electronics, generator sets, and vehicle spare parts.
The permanent secretary stated that the warehouse’s tenants have been made aware of the necessary safety precautions to take in order to avoid a recurrence in the future.
