A fire outbreak has destroyed three shops at Sawmill Abaletu along Saki Road in the Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 23, 2025, was confirmed by the State Chairman of the Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, during a briefing in Ibadan on Thursday.

According to Akinwande, the fire started at about 3:54 a.m. and was caused by an electrical fault linked to negligence by a phone repairer who failed to turn off and unplug his equipment before closing for the day. The device reportedly ignited nearby flammable materials.

“Upon receiving the distress call, our team led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Azeez responded swiftly and was able to stop the fire from spreading beyond three shops,” Akinwande said. “Seven other shops and nearby properties were successfully saved.”

He added that no lives were lost in the incident, but urged business owners and residents to adhere strictly to fire safety protocols to avoid such preventable disasters.
