Former Senior Special Assistant SSA on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Malam Garba Shehu has refuted suggestions in certain circles that he abandoned his previous superior, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and thus betrayed him when he decided to act as spokesperson for the former president.
Shehu expressed this on Tuesday in Abuja during a media engagement to reveal his autobiography, “According to the President: Insights from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience,” scheduled for public launch on July 9.
The previous president of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) clarified that all individuals who vied against Buhari for the presidential nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014 contributed their campaign resources to Buhari following his victory in the primary election.
He stated that it was on that premise that Buhari designated him as the spokesperson for the presidential campaign council and subsequently proceeded to appoint him as his spokesperson following his victory in the general election.
