SUPER FALCONS URGED TO IMPROVE FINISHING AHEAD OF WAFCON QUARTERFINAL AGAINST ZAMBIA

Agency Report
Football enthusiasts in Aba, Abia State, have called on the Super Falcons of Nigeria to step up their performance and sharpen their attacking edge as they prepare to face the Copper Queens of Zambia in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The crucial encounter is scheduled to take place on Friday at 5 p.m., with fans across the country hoping the Nigerian team can advance further in their quest for continental glory.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, local fans acknowledged the Falcons’ potential to reclaim the African title but warned that the team must convert their chances and avoid costly mistakes at this decisive stage of the tournament.
Alexandra Ukaoha, a passionate football follower and Enyimba FC supporter, noted that while the Falcons have shown promise, their inability to score in the last two Group B matches remains a concern.
“They’ve played fairly well, but football is about scoring goals. Against Botswana and Algeria, they didn’t take their chances, and that could hurt them now that they’re in the knockout rounds,” Ukaoha said.
Chijioke Njoku, a student and amateur footballer, warned against any hint of complacency going into Friday’s match.
“You can make mistakes in the group stage and still survive, but at this stage, there’s no room for error,” he cautioned.
Christiana Obasi, another fan, praised the team’s solid defence but echoed calls for better execution in the final third.
“The Falcons control games well, but they need to turn that dominance into goals. Women’s football in Africa has improved, and every team is a threat now. Still, I believe the Super Falcons have what it takes to reign again,” she said.
Also weighing in, Chidiebere Njoku, a music vocalist and ardent supporter of women’s football, predicted a win for Nigeria against Zambia but expressed concern over the team’s underwhelming performance in their last group-stage match.
“The Falcons should have beaten Algeria convincingly. A stronger display would have sent a message to a confident Zambian team that includes their talismanic captain, Barbra Banda,” he said.
The Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s football team, will be aiming for a record-extending 12th WAFCON title, but fans say they must be clinical and focused to overcome the high-flying Zambians.
