INEC RECORDS 3.5M ONLINE VOTER PRE-REGISTRATIONS, 288,000 COMPLETED IN TWO WEEKS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 3.5 million Nigerians have completed online voter pre-registration, while 288,614 have finalized the process through online and in-person registration within the first two weeks of physical enrolment.
According to the Commission’s update released on Monday, signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, the figures cover the third week of online pre-registration and the second week of physical registration nationwide.
INEC revealed that as of Sunday, September 7, a total of 3,544,850 Nigerians had pre-registered online since the commencement of the exercise on August 18, 2025.
Of this number, 1,709,933 (48.24%) are male and 1,834,917 (51.76%) are female, with the majority 2,291,809 (64.65%) aged between 18 and 34 years. Students make up 882,441 (24.89%) of registrants.
For completed registrations, combining both online and in-person options since the physical exercise began on August 25, INEC recorded 288,614 registrants as of September 4.
Out of this, 132,634 (45.96%) are male and 155,980 (54.04%) are female, with 215,414 (74.64%) aged between 18 and 34 years. Students account for 114,150 (39.55%) of the total.
The Commission added that a detailed breakdown by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status has been uploaded to its official platforms for public access.
INEC further expressed appreciation for the strong response from citizens and organisations mobilising civic participation but reiterated that voter registration is strictly for Nigerians aged 18 years and above.
“It is illegal for anyone to encourage underage registration or those below 18 years of age to register in anticipation that they will attain the legal age of voting by the time the general election holds in 2027,” the Commission cautioned.
