FLORIDA MAN EXECUTED FOR TRIPLE MURDER, 31ST U.S. EXECUTION THIS YEAR

A Florida man, David Pittman, 63, was executed by lethal injection on Wednesday for the 1990 murders of his estranged wife’s sister and her parents, authorities confirmed.
Pittman was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m. (2212 GMT) at Florida State Prison, becoming the 12th person executed in Florida this year and the 31st across the United States.
He was convicted and sentenced to death in 1991 for stabbing to death Bonnie Knowles, 21, her father Clarence Knowles, 60, and mother Barbara Knowles, 50, before setting their home on fire.
Pittman’s attorneys had sought a stay of execution, arguing he was intellectually disabled with an IQ of 70, but all appeals were rejected.
The 31 executions carried out so far in 2025 mark the highest number since 2014, when 35 inmates were put to death. Florida leads the nation, followed by South Carolina and Texas with four executions each.
Most executions this year 26 were conducted by lethal injection, while two were carried out by firing squad and three by nitrogen hypoxia, a controversial method in which prisoners suffocate after inhaling nitrogen gas. United Nations experts have denounced the practice as cruel and inhumane.
The death penalty remains a divisive issue in the United States. It has been abolished in 23 states, while California, Oregon, and Pennsylvania currently have moratoriums in place.
President Donald Trump has voiced strong support for capital punishment, and on his first day in office called for its expanded use “for the vilest crimes.”
