EL-RUFAI SLAMS AKPABIO OVER ELECTORAL ACT AMENDMENT

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has strongly criticised Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of being the central figure behind the controversy over the proposed amendment to the Electoral Act.
Speaking during an interview with the media, El-Rufai dismissed suggestions that the Senate as an institution is responsible for the contentious proposal, arguing instead that the issue stems from Akpabio’s leadership.
“It is not the Senate that is the problem. Akpabio is the problem,” El-Rufai said, adding, “By every definition, he is a scumbag.”

The former governor further alleged that the Senate President is acting in the interest of powerful political forces, describing him as a “lapdog” to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
El-Rufai called on senators who oppose the amendment to unite and openly resist it when the National Assembly reconvenes. “They must come together, protest, and stop it from happening,” he said.
He also rejected the use of the title “distinguished” for Akpabio, citing their long-standing personal acquaintance. “I don’t consider him distinguished. We have known each other since the 1990s, and I’ve seen how far we’ve come. That gives me the right to call him what he is,” El-Rufai stated.
