TINUBU HAS DELIVERED ON CAMPAIGN PROMISES, OPPOSITION CANNOT UNSEAT HIM – OMOKRI

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has asserted that President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms have fulfilled key campaign promises, making it highly unlikely for opposition parties to unseat him in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview on The Media Today on Wednesday, Omokri highlighted the APC’s expanding political influence and Nigeria’s improving macroeconomic indicators as evidence of the president’s achievements.
He further argued that the opposition’s prospects have weakened, noting that the APC now controls about 30 governorships, up from around 20 in 2023.
“If the opposition could not defeat Tinubu with about 20 governors in 2023, how are they going to be able to defeat him right now with 30 governors?” Omokri questioned.
“If the opposition could not defeat the president when he had not yet fulfilled his campaign promises, how can they hope to defeat him now that he has delivered on them?” asked Reno Omokri, who was recently appointed ambassador-designate.
He also pointed to international recognition of President Tinubu’s policies, citing recent remarks from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“Just last week, the IMF stated publicly that if other countries want reforms that work, they should learn from Nigeria,” Omokri noted.
On the economic front, Omokri highlighted the progress achieved since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.

He noted, “When this president took office, our GDP was very low, and Nigeria had fallen from being the largest in Africa to about the fourth. Today, we boast the second-largest manufacturing capacity on the continent and have added $67 billion to our GDP in just two years.”
Omokri emphasized that ordinary Nigerians are experiencing the benefits of these policies. “Since Bola Tinubu became president, Nigerians no longer queue for fuel. It is readily available and affordable. This is the first government since the Yar’Adua administration to reduce fuel prices multiple times not just once, but repeatedly. People are feeling it in their pockets.”
He cautioned against being influenced by elite-led protests in the National Assembly, saying, “Those protesting are elites attempting to seize power. The average Nigerian, however, has seen an increase in purchasing power. Take $50 in Nigeria today, convert it to naira, and what you can buy in the markets cannot be matched in any other West African country. Nigeria’s purchasing power has improved significantly.”
The remarks come as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections, with President Tinubu’s incumbency and the APC’s growing influence expected to shape the political landscape, even as opposition parties rally to challenge the ruling party.
Defections and political realignments are already strengthening the APC in several states.
