Nigerian coach Gernot Rohr has revealed concerns regarding the
goalkeeping crisis in his team as they prepare for the 2018 FIFA World
Cup.
The Super Eagles boss has recently closed his door to former captain
Vincent Enyeama, but he has problems getting a replacement for Carl
Ikeme who was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
The German coach admitted he has a goalkeeping crisis ahead of the
global tournament and said he is worried.
“It is true (we have a problem). Our problem is Ikeme’s illness (he
was diagnosed with leukemia),” Rohr told Przegld Sportowy:
Meanwhile Rohr has also said his captain John Obi Mikel will have to
undergo rigorous training with the national team ahead of the World
Cup, saying the Chinese Super League is not competitive enough.
The Tianjin Teda star is set to miss out on the Super Eagles last
friendly as he remained in China to renew his work permit.
“It might be a problem once, but the level has risen there. Before the
World Cup there will be a break to bring the players to a good
physical condition.”
Rohr will lead his men against Poland in a friendly at the Municipal
Stadium in Wrocław on Friday evening.
