The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the abduction and murder of youth leader Ojo Abbey, popularly known as “Obesere,” in Isua Akoko, headquarters of Akoko South East Local Government Area.

Abbey was allegedly kidnapped on February 22, 2026, while returning from Ibilo in Edo State. Sources said the assailants took him into a forest, where his decomposing body was later found in Igara, Edo State, on Saturday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. He added that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, had ordered intensified patrols and strategic deployments across the area and along the Ondo–Edo boundary to prevent further attacks and apprehend other suspects.

Jimoh confirmed that Abbey’s vehicle, a Nissan Almera with registration KJA 440 DB, was recovered and secured at the station. “The command commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures the public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to justice,” he said.

Reacting, the Isua Youth Forum, led by National President Abimbola Oluwafemi, described the killing as a reflection of rising insecurity in the area. The group urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and security agencies to intervene urgently.

Oluwafemi stressed: “Every individual involved in this heinous crime must be identified, apprehended, and brought to book. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. The people of Isua and our local government area are watching, and we demand decisive action.”
