The wife of the Anambra State governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has called for greater empowerment of women across Nigeria, emphasizing that empowering women strengthens society and places the nation in safer hands.

Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative, highlighted that women are trustworthy and capable, noting that anything entrusted to a woman is handled with care and responsibility.

She made the remarks on Friday during the 2026 Anambra Women Summit, organised by the All Progressives Grand Alliance at the party’s regional office in Awka.

Speaking on the theme, “Empower Her, Elevate All,” the governor’s wife stressed that empowerment begins with self-realisation and self-motivation. She urged women to acquire skills and engage in productive ventures rather than relying solely on external support.

She highlighted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has prioritised women’s empowerment and the creation of opportunities based on competence rather than gender.

“What we are doing today is to celebrate women. As I always say, women are unique — intelligent, strong, hardworking, truthful, and positive. We should celebrate women every day in a meaningful way.

“A happy wife makes a happy home. When a woman is happy, the home is at peace, and the community thrives. By empowering women, we empower society,” she said.

Soludo also urged women to stay engaged in community development and to revive communal values that foster unity and collective responsibility.

“We need to return to the spirit of communal living — to ‘be your brother’s keeper.’ Many of the challenges we face today stem from the fact that people no longer look out for one another,” she added.

She further urged women to prioritise their health, highlighting the importance of proper nutrition, regular exercise, mental wellbeing, and overall healthy living.

“Take care of yourself, eat right, exercise, drink water. Health is the greatest wealth. Focus on your mental health and be intentional about maintaining your wellbeing,” she said.

The governor’s wife also underscored various forms of empowerment, including economic, educational, health, and social empowerment, and presented cash support and empowerment materials to some participants.

She added that collective action among women could shape government policies and programmes, noting that the state governor is committed to initiatives that advance development in Anambra.

Also addressing the summit, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, Chief Executive Officer of Seahorse Company, said the event was organised to equip women with the knowledge and skills needed to become self-reliant and influential leaders.

Onunkwo urged participants to uphold good character and continue supporting Governor Soludo’s administration in its efforts to make Anambra a more liveable and prosperous state.

In her remarks, the state APGA Women Leader, Esther Onyekezi, thanked all contributors to the success of the summit and reaffirmed the women’s continued support for both the Soludo administration and the party.

The event also featured a march past by APGA women representing the 21 local government areas of the state, with Ogbaru LGA finishing first, Awka North second, and Idemili North third.

The winners were presented with cash prizes and other gifts.
