OBI CUBANA: MY POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT IS NOT FOR PERSONAL GAIN

By: Muftau Fatimo
Nigerian entrepreneur and socialite Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has stated that his increasing involvement in politics and public discourse is not driven by personal gain or ambition.
A supporter of President Bola Tinubu, Obi Cubana explained that his political engagement is motivated by a commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and promoting inclusive governance in Nigeria.
In a statement he personally released on Monday, he stressed that his participation seeks to bridge the gap between government and citizens, with a particular focus on young people and diverse communities across the country.

“I have built my career as a private citizen through hard work, entrepreneurship, and strategic investments. I have never held public office nor benefited from government patronage,” he said.
“My engagement in political discussions is entirely motivated by a desire to create spaces for meaningful interaction—particularly between young people and older generations, and across Nigeria’s diverse regions,” he said.
Obi Cubana highlighted that his recent exposure to political processes has shown a noticeable disconnect between government policies and citizens’ expectations, even when the policies are well-intentioned.
“The gap between government and the people is real and evident in public sentiment. Over the past few months, I have seen that many policies, despite being designed with good intentions, often fail to produce tangible results for citizens, either due to poor communication or a lack of understanding of citizens’ expectations,” he explained.
