PROMOTING ISLAMIC AFFAIRS REMAINS A TOP PRIORITY – SOKOTO GOVERNOR

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has reaffirmed that the promotion of Islamic affairs remains a key priority of his administration.
He made the remark while receiving members of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah from Kaduna and Jos during separate Sallah homage visits.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by his Director-General of Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa.
The governor also announced that the state government would assume full responsibility for supporting the annual Ramadan Tafseer organised by Izala groups across the state.
The governor explained that the decision to support the annual Tafseer from next year stems from his administration’s commitment to promoting Islamic affairs as a key priority.
He noted that it was no longer appropriate for organisers in Sokoto to rely on annual public appeals to fund the Ramadan Tafseer.

According to Ahmad Aliyu, the government will establish a committee to assess the financial needs required for the programme, with a view to providing possible support.
The governor praised the Izala groups for their efforts in promoting Islamic values and Da’awah, as well as for the orderly conduct of this year’s Ramadan Tafseer.
“I urge our Islamic preachers to concentrate on teaching Muslims the fundamentals of Islam, so that everyone can learn to properly worship their Creator,” he said.
Ahmad Aliyu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting religious activities, pledging assistance to Islamic organisations in organising and attending seminars and conferences both within Nigeria and abroad.
He added that the state would prioritise the construction and renovation of Islamiyya schools and improve cemetery facilities.
In response, leaders of the Izala groups from Jos and Kaduna expressed appreciation for the governor’s support for Islamic affairs, highlighting the numerous mosques built and renovated during his tenure.
They also commended the assistance provided to Imams, Deputy Imams, Mu’azzins, and Islamic preachers across the state, describing it as vital to effective religious service delivery.
The governor also hosted members of the 23 Local Government Secretaries Forum, led by Shehu Goronyo.
