INEC REMOVES THE NAMES OF DAVID MARK AND AREGBESOLA FROM THE ADC PORTAL

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deleted the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal, where they were previously listed as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The commission also stated that it will not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is attempting to secure the position of national chairman through legal action.
In a statement on Wednesday, INEC said it will suspend recognition of all factions within the party and will not monitor any conventions or congresses organised by groups linked to the affected leaders.
The Commission said the decision will remain in effect until a substantive case before the Federal High Court is finally resolved.
This development stems from an ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, alongside a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal in Suit No. CA/ABJ/145/2026, which has further intensified the dispute.
In a statement, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mallam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, emphasised that the Commission remains neutral.
He also advised political stakeholders to refrain from actions that could interfere with preparations for the 2027 general elections.
INEC revealed that it received a letter dated March 16, 2026, from Suleiman Usman SAN & Co, cautioning against recognising Nafiu Bala Gombe as acting national chairman while the matter is still before the courts.
The Commission further confirmed receiving a separate “Demand for Enforcement” from Summit Law Chambers, representing Gombe, which requested the removal of Mark and Aregbesola from INEC’s records and urged the Commission to stop engaging with them or acknowledging any actions taken under their authority.
These conflicting legal claims from opposing factions have worsened the party’s internal crisis, leading INEC to suspend all official interactions with the rival groups until the courts deliver a final ruling.
