The incident sparked panic among students of Plateau State Polytechnic, particularly those living off-campus, as the sound of gunfire threw the area into confusion.
A student, Nanchip Dube, said the gunshots caused widespread fear within the campus community.
In a separate attack earlier in Riyom Local Government Area, a 27-year-old man, Amos Monday, from Du’a village in Kwi Ward, was killed after gunmen ambushed a group of youths between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village at about 8:15 p.m.
Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders, confirmed both incidents and urged residents of Kwi, Wereng, and nearby communities in Jos South, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom to remain vigilant.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, for comments were unsuccessful.
