APC RULES OUT WITHDRAWAL, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO 2027 POLLS

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its commitment to participate in the 2027 general elections, dismissing threats by opposition parties to boycott the polls over alleged bias by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, made the statement on Sunday while appearing on Politics Today on Channels Television. He was responding to calls from some opposition figures urging political parties to withdraw from the elections, citing an uneven playing field and alleged moves to make President Bola Tinubu the sole contender.
Morka emphasized that multiple political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and several others, are expected to field candidates. “Just today, I was reading a report suggesting that some members of the ADC and maybe some other parties are considering boycotting the next election. I wish them luck,” he said.
Addressing whether the APC would also withdraw if opposition parties boycotted, Morka ruled out such a move. “I can’t give an assurance that the APC will not participate. We will participate as vigorously as required in a democracy. Our constitution gives us the liberty to participate, just like it gives ADC, PDP, Labour Party, and anyone else the opportunity,” he stated.
Morka further accused opposition parties, particularly the ADC, of attempting to use emotional appeals to influence the electoral process. “The ADC are being emotionally manipulated. They’re being very infantile and need to focus on solving their problems. Time is running. The Court of Appeal handed down a decision. INEC complied with it. Now, they are screaming,” he said.
Opposition parties, however, have intensified calls for a boycott, citing INEC’s alleged bias and fears of a predetermined outcome. A faction of the PDP led by Taminu Turaki and Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress have publicly considered a boycott, while the ADC is reportedly weighing its options.
The controversy has been heightened by INEC’s derecognition of the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee of the ADC, deepening divisions within the opposition. Sowore argued that participating in an election perceived as unfair would be pointless and called on opposition parties to consider a collective withdrawal if conditions remain unchanged.
