The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected reports suggesting it is holding talks with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of an expected court ruling, describing the claims as untrue and misleading.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party clarified that its coalition leadership is not currently in discussions with any other political parties.
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to a circulating report alleging that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is in talks with another political party, particularly the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), in anticipation of a court judgment.”
“We wish to state clearly that the claim is false.
“The coalition leadership is not engaged in any discussions with any political party at this time.
“We remain fully focused on overturning what we consider an illegal action taken against our leadership by INEC and agents of the ruling party. We believe this is essential to protecting the rule of law and preserving Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.
“While we are open to broadening the coalition to unite opposition forces in rescuing the country, we are mindful of the responsibility before us and will not abandon it.
“Any suggestion that we are considering leaving the ADC is premature, speculative, and should be disregarded.
“Despite the ongoing challenges facing democratic institutions, the ADC leadership is confident that the judiciary will uphold justice and resist any pressure to undermine Nigeria’s democracy at this critical time.”
