Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has stated that he will remain focused and undistracted until he fulfils what he described as his God-given mission in the state.

He made the remark on Monday while receiving the former Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general election, Dr Jasper Uche, at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

Uche, founder of Ihe Abia Organisation, recently defected from the PDP to the Labour Party.

Otti said he was encouraged by Uche’s attitude, noting his appreciation of the administration’s modest achievements in the state as well as his dedication to his professional work outside politics.

He said, “I want to sincerely thank you for everything. I am also encouraged that you spoke positively about the people you came with.

“One assurance I will give you is that we will not give up and we will not be distracted.

“We have a mission, and we will not stop until it is accomplished. That is why, even after the first two elections did not go our way, we remained resilient.”

He said, “One important thing is that we must always acknowledge the place of God. If God has ordained something, no one can stop it, and if God has decreed that something will not happen, no one can make it happen. We believe this is the time God has brought about this change.”

Otti also said he remains open to welcoming new members into the Labour Party, directing the Commissioner for Lands, who is also from Umunneochi like Dr Jasper, to organise a proper reception and integration for him and his supporters into the party in Umunneochi LGA.

“We are open to receiving people. We are all Igbo, and we are naturally hospitable. Our belief is that even if you are not with us, we do not see you as enemies.

“Now that Chaka Chukwumereije is here, I will leave the remaining arrangements to him. He will work with our people to properly receive you in Umunneochi.”

Uche, who said the Ihe Abia Organisation has been active for the past five years, explained that he and his supporters visited to reaffirm their commitment to the governor’s 2027 re-election bid, citing what he described as visible, verifiable, and people-oriented achievements across the state.

He added that they were ready to complement the efforts of other stakeholders to secure the governor’s return for a second term in 2027, stressing their determination to work towards his victory.

He said, “We are going to complement the efforts of my brothers who are working with you and others who are not here, to ensure that we don’t just double Umunneochi votes, but triple them in 2027.”

“I have come to work and to complement what others are doing. Since I will be working with people, we will not operate in silos.

“Your Excellency, we are here to make your work easier.”

Uche explained that he had visited the previous week to formally notify the governor of his intention to join him.

“Last time I was here, I came to officially inform you that I was leaving my former party to join you and support your government, especially in helping you continue the work you are doing in the state.

“Politics is not a one-man affair. I cannot just come and tell you that Umunneochi is fully with me without bringing key members of my supporters to share in this decision and receive your assurance.

“These are not jobless people or individuals picked from the streets. They are genuine, organic supporters from my local government,” Dr Uche said.

He also thanked the governor for his achievements in the state, expressing pride in his leadership.

The Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu; the Secretary to the State Government (SSG); the Chief of Staff to the Governor; the Commissioner for Lands, Mr Chaka Chukwumerije; the Special Adviser on Health, Dr Ngozi Azodo; the Senior Special Assistant on Due Process, Dr Oluebube; along with several other top government officials and members of the Ihe Abia Organisation, were present during the visit.
