OSUN 2026: ADELEKE ALLEGES APC SCHEME TO UNDERMINE AUGUST POLL

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has accused members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of plotting to destabilise the August 15 governorship election, alleging that the opposition is acting out of fear of defeat.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke claimed that certain APC figures were resorting to undemocratic tactics after realising they had lost public support.
“Having seen clearly that Osun people have rejected them, elements in the Osun APC are now resorting to anti-democratic means in a last-ditch effort to secure power,” the statement said.
The governor also referenced alleged opinion polls reportedly commissioned by the APC between late 2025 and March 2026, which he said placed the party’s popularity below 30 per cent, while his administration reportedly enjoyed approval ratings between 68 and 72 per cent.
According to the statement, this gap demonstrates that Adeleke retains overwhelming public support ahead of the election, suggesting that the opposition is already aware of the likely outcome.

Adeleke further alleged that tensions within the opposition worsened after comments linked to Akin Ogunbiyi concerning President Bola Tinubu’s stance on the Osun governorship race.
He claimed that the APC’s internal divisions deepened following assurances that there would be no external interference in the electoral process, which he said triggered increased desperation within the opposition.
The statement also alleged that the APC attempted to influence smaller political platforms, including the Accord Party, but failed, and is now pushing for its deregistration.
Adeleke maintained that such efforts would not succeed, insisting that Osun voters remain firmly behind his administration and will express their will at the polls.
He added that attempts to undermine the electoral process were driven by fear of the electorate and would ultimately fail.
In response, Osun APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi dismissed the governor’s claims, saying Adeleke was already anticipating defeat.
Olabisi argued that several prominent political figures had left the ruling party, weakening its structure, and described the APC as both unpopular and ineffective.
He urged the public to disregard the governor’s comments, insisting that they were not reflective of political reality in the state.
