Mojtaba Khamenei has reiterated Iran’s resolve to maintain its nuclear and missile programmes despite increasing pressure from the United States, while also promoting a future for the Persian Gulf free from American influence.

The stance was conveyed in a statement released on Thursday to commemorate National Persian Gulf Day, with Iranian state media quoting Khamenei as saying the region’s future should exist “without America.”

Khamenei, who took office in March after the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, has made limited public appearances since tensions in the ongoing conflict intensified.

In the statement, he emphasized that Iran would continue protecting its strategic military capabilities despite pressure from the United States and Israel.

He also noted that Tehran remains focused on safeguarding the Persian Gulf and preventing what it considers hostile interference in the strategically important waterway.

The comments come amid rising regional tensions, following remarks by Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, commander of the Iranian Navy, who warned that Iran would react strongly if confrontations with the United States and Israel intensify.

Irani stated that Iran is ready to take swift and decisive measures in response to renewed hostilities, adding that steps have been taken to reinforce control over the Strait of Hormuz, a major shipping route connecting the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea.
