BREAKING: SUPREME COURT NULLIFIES TURAKI FACTION’S PDP NATIONAL CONVENTION AMID PARTY CRISIS

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has nullified the national convention organised by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
hotjist had reported that the gathering produced a factional national executive committee led by Tanimu Turaki.
The apex court delivered the verdict on Thursday in a decision widely seen as one that could influence the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.
hotjist recalls that a Federal High Court had earlier restrained the convention, citing violations of the party’s constitution and noncompliance with due process.
Despite the court directive, the convention proceeded, resulting in additional legal disputes.
The Court of Appeal of Nigeria later affirmed the lower court’s ruling, holding that the convention was conducted in defiance of existing judicial orders and that its resolutions could not be upheld.
Unhappy with the consistent judgments of the lower courts, the Turaki-led faction appealed to the Supreme Court, asking it to set aside the rulings and recognise both the convention and the executives it produced.
