Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday commenced the distribution of 100 truckloads of rice and N1.2bn in palliative support targeted at vulnerable households across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The initiative, carried out in partnership with the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, is designed to ease the economic burden on vulnerable Muslim communities during the festive period.

Speaking at the launch in Kaduna, the First Lady noted that the effort reflects the values of sacrifice, compassion, and unity that define Eid-el-Kabir.

“As we approach Eid-el-Kabir, a season marked by sacrifice, compassion, and gratitude, this intervention brings the spirit of the celebration to life by providing support for vulnerable Muslim communities across the northern states and the Federal Capital Territory,” she said.

The First Lady disclosed that the rice and cash support would be distributed through state coordinating committees to ensure the items reach intended beneficiaries.

“I am pleased to formally flag off the distribution of 100 trucks of rice and the sum of N1.2bn to the 19 northern states and the FCT. May these palliatives bring succour and comfort to every home that benefits from this gesture,” she added.

She noted that the initiative followed a similar intervention carried out on December 23, 2025, when palliatives were distributed to Christian communities in Northern Nigeria, stressing that the programme demonstrates inclusiveness.

The First Lady reiterated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to implementing reforms that will yield sustainable benefits for Nigerians.

She also commended Masari for coordinating the programme.

In his remarks, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, described the initiative as a demonstration of compassionate leadership and national unity.

“Together, President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady exemplify a model of leadership anchored on service, compassion and national unity,” the governor said.

Sani added that his administration would continue to cushion the impact of economic reforms through support for small and medium enterprises, youth empowerment, agricultural development, and sustained investment in security.

He urged Muslim faithful to remain patient and united amid prevailing economic challenges, while calling on religious and community leaders to promote peace, brotherhood and mutual support across the country.
