CASEMIRO: MAN UNITED MOVE NOT MOTIVATED BY MONEY

Casemiro has dismissed claims that his transfer from Real Madrid to Manchester United is driven by money, claiming that he is joining “the biggest club in England” and is eager to reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo.
On Friday, Manchester United stated that an agreement had been reached in principle with Real Madrid. According to sources, United will pay an initial £60 million fee with £10m in potential add-ons.
Madrid paid respect to a player who has won five Champions League championships in nine years at the club by holding a ceremony on Monday that was attended by Casemiro’s family, club executives, coaching staff, and teammates.
“It’s always difficult when you take such an important decision,” Casemiro said in a news conference. “After the Champions League final [against Liverpool on May 28] I spoke to my agent, I said I felt like my time here was ending.
“My agent told me to go away on holiday. After a month, we came back and I still felt like that.”
After failing to complete deals for Frenkie de Jong and Adrien Rabiot, United turned to the 30 year-old in an attempt to recover from a terrible start to the Premier League season that included losses to Brighton and Brentford.
“What I’m looking for is new challenges, new targets, trying a new league and a new country,” Casemiro said. “What I’ve won at Real Madrid is history. Now I have to help Manchester United, where I haven’t won anything.
“The Premier League is a competition I love, that I wanted to play in. The few people who think that [the move is about money] don’t know me. If it was for money, I’d have gone four or five years ago. The last thing I’ve thought about is that.”
