The Borno State Police Command has recovered gold worth ₦23.6 million for a woman who buried the valuables while fleeing a Boko Haram attack in Mallam Fatori 15 years ago.

In a statement on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, praised the Divisional Police Officer of Mallam Fatori and his team for their professionalism and integrity throughout the recovery process.

According to the statement, the woman, who recently returned to the community after years of displacement, sought police assistance to retrieve items she had hidden in the sand during the attack.

Through what the police described as “diligent and coordinated efforts,” officers recovered 22cc of gold valued at approximately ₦20 million and a gold bracelet with a chain worth ₦3.6 million.

Daso noted that the Commissioner commended the officers for their honesty and commitment to duty, saying their conduct exemplifies the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and reinforces public trust in law enforcement.

He added that CP Abdulmajid reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue cooperating with the police to strengthen security across Borno State.
