The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State chapter, Rev. Olukayode Ogundiya, has urged the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to seek divine wisdom rather than rely solely on human expertise in efforts to secure the release of more than 40 schoolchildren and their teachers abducted in Oyo State.

Ogundiya made the appeal on Tuesday while speaking on the sidelines of the launch of The Proverbial Seven Pillars of Wisdom by Guru Wisehart at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan.

He also called on political leaders to continually seek God’s guidance in governing the country, announcing that CAN would hold a special one-day prayer programme on Saturday, July 11, 2026, to seek divine intervention for the safe return of the abducted victims.

The victims were kidnapped during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, all in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, on May 15, 2026.

Speaking on the importance of wisdom, Ogundiya said every individual, regardless of status or experience, requires God’s wisdom daily.

“Wisdom is something everyone needs every day and every moment. What our nation requires is not ordinary wisdom but the wisdom that comes from God. Our leaders must fear God and govern according to His will,” he said.

He stressed that politicians and public office holders should place their trust in God rather than their own abilities, warning that dependence on human wisdom had contributed to many of the country’s challenges.

“If our leaders trust God instead of relying on their own expertise, this nation will witness positive transformation. The Bible cautions against trusting in one’s own wisdom, and we are seeing the consequences of doing otherwise,” he added.

Ogundiya described prayer as the most effective response to the abduction crisis, expressing confidence that God would intervene and secure the release of the captives.

He disclosed that the July 11 prayer programme would hold at Orita Mefa Baptist Church, Ibadan, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., bringing together church leaders and Christians from across the country to pray for the security of Oyo State, Nigeria and the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.

“The programme is dedicated to the security of Oyo State and the nation, especially the release of the abducted children and their teachers. We will praise God in anticipation of what He is about to do,” he said.

Earlier at the event, one of the book reviewers and a Nigerian Tribune columnist, Dr. Festus Adedayo, underscored the value of wisdom through a folktale about an elderly woman who succeeded where stronger and younger men failed because she focused on her task rather than the distractions around her.

The book’s author, Dr. Felix El-Schaeddhaei, revealed that the publication was the product of two decades of research and reflection.

According to him, the book is built around seven enduring pillars—self-awareness, critical thinking, creativity, compassion and love, power and authority, resilience, and sound objective judgment—which he described as essential qualities for personal growth and effective leadership.
