The family of Mr. Michael Oyedokun, one of the two teachers killed during the abduction of pupils and staff of Community High School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to direct security agencies to recover his remains for a proper burial.
The appeal was made in an open letter jointly signed by members of the Oyedokun family and addressed to the President on Tuesday.
In the letter, the family expressed gratitude to Tinubu, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies for securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers after nearly two months in captivity.

Despite the successful rescue operation, the family said its pain remained unresolved because Oyedokun’s body had not been recovered.
“We sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Federal Government and all security agencies whose dedication and sacrifice led to the safe return of the kidnapped victims in Oyo State. Their rescue has restored hope to many families and strengthened our confidence in the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens,” the letter stated.
The family, however, lamented that unlike other families reunited with their loved ones, they continue to grieve without the opportunity to give Oyedokun a dignified burial.
“Our beloved relative, Mr. Michael Olugbade Oyedokun, lost his life while in captivity. Although others were rescued, his remains have not been found and returned to us for burial in accordance with our faith, traditions, and values.
“The absence of his body has prolonged our grief and denied us the closure every family deserves. We continue to live with the pain of not knowing where he rests and remain unable to perform the final rites that would honour his memory,” the family said.
They urged President Tinubu to instruct relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and recover the slain teacher’s remains.
According to the family, recovering his body would not only bring them closure but also uphold the dignity of every Nigerian, even in death.
“We believe the same determination that secured the freedom of the surviving victims can also ensure that Michael’s remains are returned to his family.
“Recovering his body is more than a humanitarian gesture; it is a moral obligation that affirms that no Nigerian is forgotten or denied dignity, even after death,” the letter added.
The family further appealed for urgent intervention to enable them to bury their husband, father, brother, and son with the honour he deserves and begin the healing process.
Earlier reports revealed that the rescued principal of Community High School, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, disclosed that Oyedokun was beheaded by the kidnappers on the second day of captivity, while another teacher, Mr. Esiyan Adegboye, was shot dead during the attack.
She also stated that the kidnappers deliberately killed the two teachers in an attempt to pressure the government into meeting their demands.
While Adegboye’s body was recovered and buried in Ogbomoso on May 22, Oyedokun’s remains are yet to be found despite the successful rescue of the remaining abducted pupils and teachers after 57 days in captivity.
