The Kwara State Government has reiterated that the Placement Examination, popularly known as the Common Entrance Examination, remains free for all eligible pupils in public schools across the state.
The government also warned public primary and junior secondary schools against collecting unauthorised fees from parents or guardians for the examination.
The directive was issued by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, in Ilorin on Monday, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye.
Olohungbebe emphasised that the state government fully funds the examination and has not approved any form of payment for participating pupils.
He urged principals and headteachers to strictly adhere to the government’s policy by ensuring that no parent or guardian is asked to pay any unauthorised fee under any guise.
“Our schools have consistently demonstrated commitment to government policies. We expect every school leader to sustain that confidence by ensuring the Common Entrance Examination remains completely free for every eligible child,” the commissioner said.
He noted that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq remains committed to transparency, accountability and equal access to quality education.
Olohungbebe warned that any school found violating the directive would face appropriate sanctions in line with existing regulations.
He also called on school administrators to uphold the highest standards of integrity throughout the examination process, reaffirming the government’s commitment to conducting credible, fair and malpractice-free assessments across the state’s education system.
The commissioner further encouraged parents and guardians to report any demand for unauthorised payments through the Ministry’s C2C helpline, assuring them that all genuine complaints would be thoroughly investigated and addressed.
