Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has commissioned a $200 million lithium mining and processing facility in Boko Village, Zurmi Local Government Area, describing the project as a major step toward industrial growth and economic transformation in the state.
The Zamfara Lithium Mining and Processing Plant is a collaborative investment involving ZAM Mining Company Ltd, Bima Mines Ltd, Jinlide Mining Co. Ltd and other partners.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony on Saturday, Lawal said the project would help unlock the state’s rich mineral resources through responsible investment, value addition, job creation and sustainable resource management.
The governor emphasised that effective development depends on transparent resource management and the creation of a conducive environment for credible investors.
He noted that Zamfara’s vast mineral wealth should be harnessed to drive economic growth, generate employment and improve the living standards of residents.

According to him, his administration has introduced reforms aimed at transforming the solid minerals sector from largely informal operations into a regulated industry capable of attracting significant investment and delivering broad-based economic benefits.
“For years, Zamfara has been recognised for its enormous mineral deposits. However, the real value of these resources lies in how effectively they are utilised to improve the lives of our people,” he said.
Lawal stated that the state government has continued to collaborate with the Federal Government to encourage legitimate mining activities and ensure the sector contributes meaningfully to national and state development.
He highlighted the growing global demand for lithium and other strategic minerals, driven by advancements in renewable energy, electric vehicles and modern technology.
The governor stressed the importance of local processing and value addition, noting that the state must move beyond exporting raw minerals to developing industries that create jobs and build technical capacity.
“We must be active participants across the entire value chain through local processing, skills development and industrial expansion,” he said.
Lawal also assured investors of the government’s commitment to maintaining a business-friendly environment through enhanced security, improved infrastructure and policies that support responsible mining operations.
He urged the operators of the facility to prioritise local employment opportunities, skills development, environmental sustainability, community engagement and corporate social responsibility.
According to him, residents of Boko Village and surrounding communities should directly benefit from the project and experience tangible improvements in their quality of life.
The governor congratulated the investors and stakeholders involved in the initiative before officially commissioning the lithium mining and processing plant.
