By Aishat Momoh. O.

A 41-year-old man, Gbadura Temitope, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over an alleged N1.1 million land fraud.
Temitope was brought before the court on Friday on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and conversion of funds.
According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly committed the offences on February 5, 2021, in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
Prosecuting counsel, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that Temitope allegedly obtained N1.1 million from the complainant, Mr. Ojo Momoh, under the pretext of selling three plots of land to him.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant knew the claim to be false and subsequently converted the money to his personal use.
Apata said the offences contravene Sections 328 and 295 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the matter to allow the prosecution study the case file and present its witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr. Oluwafemi Alabi, appealed to the court to grant his client bail, assuring the court that he would not abscond during the trial.
In her ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The court subsequently adjourned the case until June 17, 2026, for hearing.
