NIGERIAN MOTHER IN VIRAL ‘ALCOHOL-FEEDING’ VIDEO CLAIMS IT WAS COKE, NOT ACTION BITTERS

A Nigerian mother who went viral last week after a video appeared to show her feeding her five-month-old baby with a sachet of alcohol has come forward to clarify the incident, claiming it was staged and that the sachet actually contained Coca-Cola.
The video, which triggered widespread outrage and calls for her arrest, showed the woman giving the baby a drink from a sachet labelled “Action Bitters,” with an accompanying caption that implied it was given to help the child sleep.
In response, the Nigeria Police Force launched an investigation into the incident, with many Nigerians on social media accusing the mother of child abuse.
However, in a new video that began circulating on Wednesday, the yet-to-be-identified woman denied giving her child alcohol. She insisted that the sachet was thoroughly washed and filled with Coke purely for the purpose of creating content.
“About the video I posted earlier, that is not Action Bitters. It is Coke. I poured Coke into the sachet. Since I posted the video, people have been dragging me on social media,” she said.
She claimed to have a video recording of the moment she cleaned the sachet and filled it with the soft drink, insisting it was never her intention to harm her child or promote underage alcohol consumption.
“My baby is just five months old. I would never give her Action Bitters. I’m not that kind of mother. I don’t even take it myself,” she added.
Admitting that she underestimated the consequences of the post, the woman described the viral video as a failed attempt at generating online engagement.
“To clear the air, it was Coke I poured into the sachet, and I washed it before using it. I was just trying to create content, nothing more. We are begging Nigerians, please forgive us,” she said.
The incident has reignited conversations around responsible content creation, child safety, and the need for stricter online content regulations in Nigeria.
