NIGERIANS WILL DECIDE 2027 ELECTION, NOT BILLIONAIRES- MAKINDE

The presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement, Seyi Makinde, has said that the 2027 presidential election will be decided by Nigerians themselves, not by how many billionaires support the candidates or how much money is spent on their campaigns.
Makinde made this statement on Monday during the APM North-Central Zonal Town Hall Meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
As the governor of Oyo State, who is running on the “Reset Nigeria” plan, he said that political power and money won’t decide who wins the 2027 election.
He said, “This 2027 election won’t be decided by experts and pollsters.”
He added, “This election isn’t about how many rich people you have supporting you or how much money you can spend.
This election will be decided by the people of Nigeria.”
Makinde also criticized the federal government’s economic policies, calling them “voodoo economics.”
He explained that even though states are getting more money from the Federation Account, this hasn’t helped reduce hunger in Nigeria.
According to him, Oyo State’s reliance on federal funding dropped from more than 80% when he first took office in 2019 to 65% by 2022, but later went back up to almost 80% after the fuel subsidy was removed.
He said, “They claim we have more money, that the states governors, the state government have been collecting more money from the federation account. I’m not arguing with that. Yes, the quantum of the money, yes, we have more money, but has it translated to fighting hunger in our society?
“The answer is no.”
On insecurity, Makinde questioned the planning and budgetary provisions behind the Federal Government’s decision to establish additional army divisions.
He said he examined the 2026 budget for provisions related to establishing the army divisions but could not find them.
Makinde said tackling insecurity required proper planning and budgetary provisions, not decisions made without adequate preparation.
The APM candidate also mentioned that his “Reset Nigeria” plan could be carried out in four years.
He explained that the plan would focus on security, education, the economy, and the social and political situation.
He said his government would work to rebuild Nigeria’s security system, improve education, use data and science to manage the economy, and change the country‘s social and political environment.
“Reset Nigeria’s security system, reset education, reset the economy using data, science, and logic, and reset our social and political environment in four years.
That is our plan,” he added.
Makinde said if he becomes president, his government would start a transitional government of national unity on May 29, 2027, which he said would bring in “new people and a new plan for Nigeria’s long–term growth.”
The North-Central town hall meeting was part of the APM’s zonal engagements ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The campaign had earlier announced Lafia as the venue for its North-Central engagement.
