SECURITY AGENCIES DEPLOY FORCES NATIONWIDE AHEAD OF 2026 EID-EL-KABIR CELEBRATIONS
Agency Report

State governments and security agencies across Nigeria have announced extensive security measures to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration in 2026, amid heightened concerns over possible attacks and ongoing security challenges in parts of the country.
In Borno State, the government imposed a temporary restriction on vehicular and human movement during Eid prayers hours, as part of efforts to strengthen security and prevent potential attacks. The restriction, approved by Governor Babagana Zulum, will run from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and applies to all vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles, except emergency and essential service providers.
The state government urged residents to attend Eid prayers at locations nearest to their homes for easier monitoring and crowd control, while calling for cooperation with security agencies.
Across the country, police commands and other security formations have also rolled out coordinated deployments covering Eid prayer grounds, highways, recreational centres, motor parks and other vulnerable locations.
In the Federal Capital Territory, the police said explosive ordnance disposal units and tactical teams have been deployed across worship centres and public gathering points under a joint security operation codenamed “Operation Sweep FCT.” The command said intelligence-led patrols, surveillance and raids on identified flashpoints would continue throughout the festive period.
Similarly, Kwara, Jigawa and Delta State police commands announced intensified visibility policing, stop-and-search operations, patrols and inter-agency collaboration to forestall any breakdown of law and order before, during and after the celebrations.
Security agencies warned against activities that could obstruct public roads or endanger lives, including the erection of unauthorised tents and structures on highways.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) also announced the nationwide deployment of over 56,000 personnel to safeguard lives, property and critical national infrastructure during the festive period.
According to the Corps, specialised units including tactical squads, intelligence teams and rapid response operatives have been placed on high alert, with directives to maintain strict vigilance and professionalism.
In Lagos, 2,150 NSCDC personnel were deployed to strategic locations such as worship centres, transport hubs and critical infrastructure, with officials warning against vandalism and other security breaches.
Authorities across the country urged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid celebrations.
